Fundamental Strikes within the clinch - An overview

The Clinch, is a state of Fighting that evolves from the in-Fighting range. It still allows for strikes to be exchanged between fighters, but unlike with in-fighting, there is a grappling aspect to consider also. A fighter with significant skills in clinch can easily dominant their opposition, even against an opponent with a significant weight or size advantage. It allows for the dominant fighter to control the head of their opponent, thus controlling the opponent's balance and weight distribution. Through this manipulation, you can minimise the return strikes from your opponent to a much greater degree than when at in-fighting distance, whilst opening your opponent's guard in such a manner to leave them susceptible to devastating close range strikes to vulnerable targets.  Contrast to the chancery, despite basic throws being possible within the clinch, they remain a secondary focus, instead the primary focus is to incapacitate your opponent with strikes. There are a wide ra...

Pugilism Stances - Mendoza Guard

Daniel Medoza is considered to be, by many, including myself, the " father of defensive boxing" Indeed many of the defences used today in modern boxing, can find themselves rooted in his forward thinking teachings. His stance was more side-on, than traditional pugilistic defences, and employed a greater degree of mobility, both for defence and offence. His stance afforded him a great range of vision, allowing him to fully see his opponents, and react accordingly, essential for his mobile defence concept to be successful. In essence his beliefs were, that it was better not to get hit at all! The mobility this stance afforded, in contrast to the more traditional stances, allowed Mendoza to attack from somewhat unusual angles, varying his attacks and taking his opponents by surprise. It is easy to see how this stance has contributed to modern defences, however it is also easy to see how this stance is still one adopted by a pugilist, rather than a modern boxer. The hands are lo...

The BFG - Big Al's Friendly Gym Videos - optimised for phone

As part of the videos that supplement my book "Anything To Win- Ultimate Fighting Manual," I am filming a "gym friendly" series of videos. These videos will be filmed in portrait, so they are optimised to be watched on a mobile phone, whilst out and about at your gym. An "Easy to Watch" experience for you to make reference to whilst training. note: This series in more expanded than the shorts (which are also very gym friendly and make an excellent quick reference) contains full length videos. #ultimatefightingmanual #ufm #anythingtowin #ATW #pugilism #pugilist #bareknuckle #boxing #boxer #boxingtraining #martialarts #martialartstraining #bareknuckle #bareknuckleboxing #bkb #ukbkb #kindle #selfdefence #fight #fighting #streetfighter #Streetdefence #amazon #amazonbooks #book #trainingmanual #ebook #devlin #bigal #bigaldevlin

Planning anything to win

Alright guys, so a couple of years ago I came up with the idea of creating my own Fighting Manual, inspired and influenced by the original pugilism manuals from the 1700's and 1800's, such as Daniel Mendoza's "Art of boxing". I had a great response to my initial footage, and the series on YouTube that kickstarted it all, is still very popular years later. However when it came to putting pen to paper, I struggled very much. I found myself lost in the details -struggling to see the wood through the trees, and it didn't take long before I was completely overwhelmed with the immensity of the challenge I had given myself. On top of that, "real life" then interposed, distracting me with issues that simply needed handling.  But at long last, I feel more settled within my mind, with a passion burning strong to recommence this worthy challenge. Learning from my prior mistakes, I have already come up with an overall structure for the book (the manual aspect o...
